Looking for Employment?

God is the source of all that we have and all that we need. You may be in need of a job and God can provide that. You are right to ask, ÒHow will God provide a job for me?Ó

Our answer is that we must follow what the Bible teaches us. We must be a qualified worker. We must be one that is worthy of being hired. If we are worthy to be hired there is work in this Valley. So, what makes a worker worthy to be hired?

There are general characteristics as well as skill qualifications that make a person worthy of being hired. In short, the worker must be reliable, healthy, willing to work, honest, diligent, teachable, and obedient. If you were to look at people you know who have steady jobs and contrast them with those who are either unemployed or constantly being unemployed, you will notice the presence or absence of these characteristics. If one or more of these characteristics is it but a short time before they will be unemployed.

What steps can you take towards worker worthiness? You might start by asking yourself which areas you need to work on. Reliability: The employee shows up when scheduled, calls in advance if there is a problem and always finds a way to go to work even in light of difficulties. One must handle his/her finances in a manner that will allow them to be reliable. Health: The worthy worker does not abuse drugs or alcohol, gets proper sleep, and eats properly. Willingness: The willing worker desires to work. He or she desires to complete tasks and desires to better his/her life. Many unemployed people simply donÕt desire to work. Honesty: The employee is honest with the time card and is honest in all that is said and done. Diligence: The worker puts forth a worthy effort for as long as it takes and all the time. This worker does not spend idle time in unhealthy or ungodly pursuits. Teach-ability: The best employee is always ready to learn and always ready to be taught. She/he never believes they know it all. Obedience: The successful employee is ready to obey the rules and the supervisors.

What about our relationship with God? If one expects God to provide for us, (as He says in the Bible He does) one must develop his/her relationship with God. ÒBlessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.Ó Psalm 1:1-3
