Post Salvation
Teachings
You have taken the first
step in faith by confessing your sins and believing Christ is your Savior.
There are now a few things to learn and understand about your salvation by
faith. The Spirit of God has changed your heart. You are now a disciple or
follower of Jesus, a new creation.
We have been united to
Christ, that is we are one in Christ.
- Col 1:27 ÒChrist in you, the hope of glory.Ó
That we are in Christ
emphasizes that He is our entire life.
- John 15:4 ÒAbide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear
fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you, unless
you abide in Me.Ó
We were saved by faith
alone
- Eph 2:8,9 ÒFor by grace you have been saved through faith, and
that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works,
that no one should boast.Ó
As Christ becomes a part
of the personÕs life, ChristÕs nature becomes his nature and ChristÕs life
becomes his life.
- Phil 1:21 ÒFor toe me to live is ChristÓ
- Gal 2:20 ÒI have been crucified with Christ;
and it is no longer I who live, but Christ in me; and the life which I now
live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and
delivered Himself up for me.Ó
We are a bond-slave of
Christ.
- 1 Cor 6:19,20 ÒOr do you not know that your
body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God,
and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price:
therefore glorify God in you body.Ó
God has started a work
in you and He will be faithful to finish it. We are to cooperate with Christ.
- Phil 1:6 ÒBeing confident of this very
thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until
the day of Jesus Christ.Ó
- Rom 8:28,29 ÒAnd we know that God causes all
things to work together for the good to those who love God, to those who
are called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also
predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son that He might be
the first-born among many brethren.Ó
How will you withstand
the coming trials and temptations?
- 2 Cor 9:8 ÒGod is able to make all grace
(unmerited favor) abound to you, that always having all sufficiency in
everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.Ó
As you are in Christ you
will want to be with others who are related to Christ. You will not want to
daily associate with those who are not in Christ, who are actually enemies of
God as you once were.
- Col 3:16 ÒLet the word of Christ richly
dwell within you awith all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another
with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in
your hearts to God.Ó
How do you know if
others are in Christ as you now are?
- 1 John 3:7,10 ÒLittle children, let no one
deceive you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He
is righteous.Ó ÒBy this the children of God and the children of the devil
are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor
the one who does not love his brother.Ó
Your life has been
bought with a price; the physical crucifixion of Jesus Christ. You owe your
entire life to the grace of Jesus Christ. You must live a new life worthy of
that. If Christ is our life, it
will be reflected in our conduct.
- Gal 2: 20 ÒI have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer
I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the
flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered
Himself up for me.Ó
Recognize that your new
life will not be trouble free. Your new life will be full of joy within the
troubles because you are in Christ and He is in you. You know you will conquer
every trouble because Christ will strengthen you and carry you.
- Phil 1:29 Òfor unto you it is given in the
behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his
sake.Ó
- James 1:12 ÒBlessed is a man who perseveres
under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of
life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.Ó
As you are in Christ you
will want to make a public confession of this through baptism. You will
publicly identify the crucifixion of your fleshly desires and old self through
the symbolic burial of your sin and old self. You will symbolically receive the
cleansing of water baptism and publicly commit yourself as a follower of Jesus
through this identification with Him in baptism.
